Launch of Ground Operations and Departures Code Of Practice

A new code of practice aimed at reducing the environmental impacts of aviation was launched on 26th June 2012. The code recommends four operational techniques which offer benefits in fuel burn, air quality and noise as well as offering operational improvements. British Airways has chaired this cross industry effort and will now help with the implementation of its recommendations which will be led by the UK Sustainable Aviation initiative, a collection of airlines, airport operators, manufacturers and NATS, the UK’s Air Traffic Control service.

Rolls-Royce Biofuels Testing

British Airways is working with Rolls-Royce to identify practical sustainable alternatives to the current industry fossil fuels. We are part way through a series of tests and the results will be shared across the industry. The aim is to increase the range of sustainable fuels available and ultimately to reduce aviation’s impact on the environment.
