Flying Start is our global charity partnership, British Airways and Comic Relief UK.  We aim to raise money to help children living incredibly tough lives in the UK and around the world.

Every child deserves a Flying Start and all money raised will go to children’s projects in the cities where we fly.

Flying Start

The projects focus on giving children and their families a helping hand rather than a handout to help create lasting change.  Flying Start is helping to give street children access to education, giving young carers a break from looking after sick family members and vaccinating babies and children against deadly viruses.

Comic Relief are experts in tackling the issues at the heart of world poverty, while we at BA are passionate about our involvement in communities around the world. That’s why this unique partnership is such a winning combination, with the power to transform lives at a local level and on a global scale.

Through the generosity of British Airways passengers and colleagues have raised over £6 million in 3 years to help disadvantaged children in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.  Donate to Flying Start and with your help we’re changing lives, one child at a time.

Flying Start Gig In The Sky is a record breaker!

British Airways hosted a gig in the sky at 43,000 feet on 10th March 2013 in support of Comic Relief for Red Nose Day. We set two Guinness World Record titles: the ‘Highest Harlem Shuffle’ and ‘Highest Concert’ in the sky, with Tony Hadley and Kim Wilde performing their hits on a red-nosed Boeing 767 aircraft at 43,000ft.

Hosted by Shane Ritchie, 128 lucky passengers were treated to performances from Bananarama and Go West on the ground, and Tony Hadley and Kim Wilde in the air on Sunday 10 March 2013.

To keep the authenticity of the era, canapés inspired by BA 1988 menus were served in the lounge, and cabin crew donned original 80s Roland Klein uniforms.
