About One Destination
As an Island nation, air links are vital to the UK’s social and economic success and competitiveness, and we see our growth as an important contribution to that success. Alongside this we are aware that our customers love to fly but have concerns about issues such as the impact on the environment, on local communities and on their health while on board. To ensure we address these issues and grow in a sustainable manner while respecting the world we live in, we have developed One Destination, our Corporate Responsibility programme.
In our mission to drive awareness and debate in these areas, we host and lead events such as the annual British Airways Environment debate and an annual Corporate Responsibility Seminar. In recognition of the importance of Corporate Responsibility to the sustainability of our business, and despite the current economic uncertainties, we have fully protected the level of resources required to maintain our commitment to our One Destination programme.
Within our One Destination programme we focus on four key areas:
The Environment
We recognise that flying has an impact on the Environment and we are fully committed to doing all we can to minimise this impact. As part of this commitment British Airways has led the airline industry in setting challenging targets, including those regarding carbon efficiency, absolute emissions reductions, noise per flight and waste recycling.
Local Communities
As a global airline we care about all the areas we fly to, and our long-running Community Investment programme offers support to local and international education, conservation and charity projects.
Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion is embedded in the way that we work within British Airways. We are proud to employ a diverse workforce of colleagues from different backgrounds and cultures. This helps us to understand and recognise the needs of our customers and provide an individual service to them.
Health and Well-being
As an airline, our customers’ on-board health and well-being is extremely important to us and we make sure we provide expertly trained staff and the best equipment to ensure they enjoy a safe flight whatever their personal needs.
Future Programme
We recognise that best practice international sustainability programmes consider dimensions of economic, environment and social sustainability. From 2012 we will begin to reflect this in both our Corporate Responsibility programme and our reporting activity.
